God’s Original Design (G.O.D)
Dear Soul,
What is DNA? According to the U.S. National Library of Medicine:
DNA determines our height, weight, eye color, hair color, and even our personalities. DNA is the essence of who we are and we do not have the power to control our genetic makeup (though we try…) Now, what does DNA have to do with this devotional? I’m glad you asked…
David, former king of Israel and a man after God’s own heart, informs us in Psalm 51:5 that as humans, we were shaped or formed in iniquity or wickedness and conceived in sin (immorality, transgression, or evil). In other words, evil and wickedness is a part of our DNA! Just like we cannot predetermine our genetic makeup, we cannot change the fact that the essence of who we are as people is EVIL. No matter how good we think we are, we are still innately evil.
Don’t believe me? Take a moment to consider the state of the world we live in. How is it that a person can murder another in cold blood? How is that people can lie, steal, and cheat each other without feeling guilty? How is that people can be so insensitive to life and death that they broadcast heinous acts of violence and horrible circumstances on social media with no regard for the lives impacted? How can mothers kill unborn babies in the name of so-called rights or convenience? How can fathers leave their wives, children, and God-given responsibilities to pursue vain ambitions? The answer is quite simple, they were “shaped in iniquity and conceived in sin”. Evil and wickedness is in their DNA and they cannot help but be who they are! In the same way that it is unrealistic to expect a dog to function as a cat, a horse as a cow, a man as a woman or a woman as a man (*wink), we cannot expect humans to be anything but evil even when they try hard to be “good”.
Sounds hopeless, huh?
So, how do we reconcile this fact that “good” isn’t good enough? Do we just accept the fact that we are evil and incapable of being anything but that? NO…after we accept the fact that we are evil and there is nothing good in or about us, we must seek help from the only being who has the power to change DNA, GOD! Now, let me be clear. I am talking about the one true and living God that inspired the bible that few of us read, but many of us quote. I am referring to the great “I AM”, the KING of kings and LORD of lords, the Alpha and the Omega, who is “One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.” (Ephesians 4:6). I am talking about the God in the book of Genesis who said “Let there be light” and it was so, the God who created the birds, trees, sun, moon and stars and whose greatest creation was mankind a.k.a. human beings (you and I). He is the creator of all things and is in all things so He is the only one capable of changing our DNA. He is the chief geneticist, primary scientist and lead doctor of medicine. There is no other who has the power to do what He can to you, in you, and through you.
So, to answer the question of how we deal with the evil that is innately in us. We must allow God to change the very fabric of our internal being (our DNA) so that we can truly be “good” or righteous/holy. Contrary to popular belief (worldly/carnal thinking), we cannot change the outside appearance and become something we were not created to be. No matter how much plastic surgery you undergo or how extensive your sex change operation is, if you were born a man, you are still a man with fake female parts. Your genetic makeup is still male though your outward makeup is female. You cannot escape who you are internally though you can fool many outwardly. Accept it or not, God is the only who can change who you are, but remember, He does not make mistakes so since He did not intend to make you a woman, you are not a woman! (…I digress…) In this same manner, we cannot put on a façade of goodness and expect that to be good enough. We need God, the creator of our DNA to re-calibrate the bases and codes so that they manifest as righteousness and not evil.
At this point, I know you may be wondering why we were shaped in iniquity and conceived in sin in the first place since God is good? Why didn’t God give us righteous DNA from the beginning? The fact is, He did! Just like geneticists and scientists attempt to modify genetics to produce different results in organisms outside of the original design, human DNA was tampered with by the devil from the time of the “Fall of Man” (Genesis 3). Because the first man and woman created experienced a shift in their genetic code, everything that they produced from that moment on was evil, hence the reason for David’s statement about us being shaped in iniquity and conceived in sin. The reason why the world is in the state that it’s in is because it is filled with generations upon generations of people with corrupted DNA. This was not God’s original plan!
God wants to take your corrupt DNA and recode it so that you once again reflect his image. As I stated earlier, our DNA determines our height, weight, hair color, eye color, personality, among other things. God’s original design of man was in His image, full of His qualities. (Genesis 2:7) God wants to take the old, corrupt you and make you brand new, complete with a new heart (Ezekial 36:26), new mind (Ephesians 4:23), and eventually, a new incorruptible body (2 Corinthians 5). Remember, no matter how you change the outward appearance, you are still YOU internally. The good news is that you don’t have to accept the fact that you were shaped in iniquity and conceived in sin and are doomed to remain that way forever. The only thing you can control in the entire matter is your decision to accept Christ into your heart and allow Him to do an internal modification of your DNA.
WILL YOU ACCEPT HIM TODAY?
Sincerely,
Concerned Christian (CC)
What is DNA? According to the U.S. National Library of Medicine:
DNA, or deoxyribonucleic acid, is the hereditary material in humans and almost all other organisms. Nearly every cell in a person’s body has the same DNA…The order, or sequence, of DNA bases determines the information available for building and maintaining an organism, similar to the way in which letters of the alphabet appear in a certain order to form words and sentences.
