Fashion extraordinaire, Justin Haynes, has done it again with his Burgundy line, all-black affair! Justin Haynes, CEO of JUS10H, is known for his unique fashions and spectacular events. The event was nothing short of exceptional. Upon entering the Dunbar Community Center, where the event was held, attendees were greeted with a video presentation of JUS10H photoshoots in Boston and NYC with two of his models sharing their sentiments about the designer. After checking in, the Beat News team and I were escorted to a beautifully decorated room complete with dynamic stage lighting, a runway, two screens boldly displaying "Burgundy, Fall/Winter 2017", a uniquely crafted drape backdrop, and smooth jazz to match the mood of the event. The hosts for the evening were Abdul Raman-Mohammud and Autumn, who did a phenomenal job engaging and interacting with the crowd. There were giveaways, interviews, contests, and more, facilitated by the evening's hosts. Before the sho

God’s Original Design (G.O.D)

Dear Soul, What is DNA? According to the U.S. National Library of Medicine: DNA, or deoxyribonucleic acid, is the hereditary material in humans and almost all other organisms. Nearly every cell in a person’s body has the same DNA…The order, or sequence, of DNA bases determines the information available for building and maintaining an organism, similar to the way in which letters of the alphabet appear in a certain order to form words and sentences. (https://ghr.nlm.nih.gov/primer/basics/dna) DNA determines our height, weight, eye color, hair color, and even our personalities. DNA is the essence of who we are and we do not have the power to control our genetic makeup (though we try…) Now, what does DNA have to do with this devotional? I’m glad you asked… David, former king of Israel and a man after God’s own heart, informs us in Psalm 51:5 that as humans, we were shaped or formed in iniquity or wickedness and conceived in sin (immorality, transgression, or evil). God's Lives Matter by Gary Shepard

Image
"God's Lives Matter" is a right now kinda song! It tackles the very sensitive topic of police brutality and the apparent victimization of African Americans. The project is overseen by Sam Bradley, CEO of Gospel Entertainment, created and produced by Lakia Crawford and Brandon Baymon of Kilabra Stone Productions and produced/mixed/mastered to perfection by Irv Baptiste. The track lays it all out on the line as each of the featured artists share their views on the "matter". Shkitzo Shkitzo is what you call a fire spitter. He starts with a straightforward and familiar flow as if he is on cruise control. He then comes in full throttle with a fast-paced, staccato flow that forces the listener to concentrate in order to keep up. Shkitzo touches upon government corruption and the lack of concern for the law. He also touches on how the church is spiritually sleeping as these crimes against humanity occur. Erica Campbell "Help" featuring Lecrae and Krista Campbell

Gospel singer Erica Campbell has released a new single entitled "Help" off of her upcoming solo project which is due for release in March 2014. The song features gospel hip hop artist, Lecrae, and her oldest daughter, Krista Campbell.   Better known for her work as one half of the sister duo Mary Mary, Erica announced last year her desire to do some solo work which resulted her first solo release "A Little More Jesus", an uptempo inspirational tune that highlights the need for Jesus especially in times of trouble. "Help" takes a much more melo tone and in it Erica cries out for help as she illustrates the many troubles that a person goes through. Her daughter joins her on the hook, delivering a powerful yet simple message "help"!! The video effectively captures the mood and tone of the song and shows Erica dressed in black against a black backdrop as if to represent her sense of mourning. The songs clearly holds special meaning to Erica wh

Kingdom Fire: Hee Sun Lee!!

Image
In My City Records has a female artist named HeeSun Lee that is straight Kingdom fire. My daughter is 11 and wants to rap just like her daddy so I went on a mission to find Christian female rappers. This was a difficult task since there aren't many and what I found really didn't blow me away. I did find some gems like Florida group Rhema Soul's Butta P or Blanca from Group One Crew, but HeeSun Lee is in a league of her own. I was blown away by her ability to put words together over infectious beats. HeeSun Lee is fire and her skills rival Nikki Minaj's. With female rappers like HeeSun Lee, Butta P and Blanca, I was able to show my daughter that there are female rappers standing up and spitting straight heat for the Kingdom.
